Celebrating Commitment and Expertise: Sterile Processing Week From 13 – 18 Oct 2024

Sterile Processing Week (formerly International Central Service Week), which took place from 13 to 18 October 2024 was a time to reflect on the dedication and technical expertise of those who form the backbone of patient safety in healthcare facilities. The specialists in Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSD) often work behind the scenes but play a pivotal role in ensuring the utmost care in the processes that minimise the threat of infection for patients. Kur-a-Med, a leader in sterilisation and infection-control products, took this opportunity to shed light on and appreciate the personnel and facilities dedicated to impeccable sterilisation standards.

Cureday and Advanced Health Departments Lead by Example

Throughout this celebratory week, several CSSD Departments from renowned groups of hospitals have showcased their commitment to maintaining the sterling standards vital to patient care. The Cureday Group of hospitals, known for its network of excellent healthcare services, had its departments from around South Africa including Fourways, Foreshore, Bellville, Paarl, Somerset West, Midstream, and Wilgeheuwel join in the recognition of this special week.

In tandem, the Advanced Health Group of hospitals also saw its CSSD counterparts partake in the festivities. Facilities from Panorama, Summerhill, Durbanville, Harbour Bay, Groenkloof, Del la Vie, and East Rand, engaged in spreading awareness and celebrating their essential work.

Tokens of Appreciation: The “Feel Good Goody Bag”

Appreciation for CSSD professionals was packed into “feel good goody bags,” distributed to honour and thank the individuals for their relentless service. These bags were curated to include an assortment of treats such as juice, chips, chocolate, biscuits, and sweets to bring smiles and joy. Beyond these indulgences, the goody bags also contained sample products from Steritech and Kuraflo – aligned with the mission of sterility and infection control that the CSSD personnel champion every day.

Conclusion

The efforts of CSSD professionals should not go unnoticed throughout the rest of the year. The meticulous care they provide touches every aspect of patient treatment and surgery. This week merely amplified what we should acknowledge daily – that the safety and wellness of patients in medical facilities across South Africa owe much to the thorough work of sterile processing professionals.

Kur-a-Med commends all those involved in the CSSD departments of both the Cureday and Advanced Health groups, as well as sterile processing specialists across the globe for their unwavering commitment to excellence in healthcare.
